The women have been waiting for hours together in the queues for getting a pail of drinking water.
Following death of 10 persons due to diarrhoea in Guntur city, the women have been waiting in the queue for drinking water supplied by tankers.
When the GMC officials noticed that municipal tap lines were passing through the drains and leakage of drinking water pipelines were contaminating the drinking water causing diarrhea, they started supplying water through tankers in some localities.
The GMC is supplying drinking water through the tankers instead of releasing water through the taps. P Santosham, a woman in Anandpeta area said that they were not getting sufficient drinking water. Tankers were coming to their street once in a day.
She said that they were purchasing bubbles for drinking purpose. She informed that drinking water contamination in Anandpeta area was old problem and urged the GMC to release drinking water through the taps at least now.
Another woman on the condition of anonymity said that they were using water supplied through tankers for domestic purpose and not for drinking.She also said that they were purchasing bubbles for drinking water.
