Vijayawada: Two kids from Vijayawada suffering from Leptin hormone deficiency, aged four and two years, need help from the Government of Andhra Pradesh, said LivLife Hospital bariatric surgeon D Nanda Kishore here on Wednesday.

Addressing the media persons, Dr Nanda Kishore said that about two months ago two kids aged two and four were brought to the hospital by their parents with the complaint of overweight and excessive eating. He said that the four-year-old boy weighing 44 kg and two years boy was 35 kg which was abnormal compared to their age. After examination and on performing a series of tests, the doctors concluded that the kids were suffering from Leptin hormone deficiency.

He explained that the hospital authorities had contacted doctors in the United States of America who have the medicine for the problem. They asked to include the two kids in the research protocol for the treatment of Leptin hormone. The US research people replied that at present the US had restricted to enroll research protocol only to US citizens. The doctor replied that if the kids were not enrolled in their research protocol by the US at least they can send the medicine which would be very helpful to the children, he added.

In this regard the hospital and the parents of the kids requested the government to intervene and extend its support to contact the US research to enroll them in their research programme or arrange for the medicine to treat the children. The doctor said if not treated the kids would develop hypertension, diabetes, breathing problem, kidney problem which would lead to more health complications, said that doctor.
