Eluru: The Zilla Parishad chairman, Mullapudi Bapiraju has said that a plan would be implemented to establish mini mineral water plants in all Zilla Parishad schools in the district. The ZP Chairman in Eluru on Wednesday handed over a cheque for Rs 25 lakh to Nallajerla MPDO P Suryanarayana Murthy as the mandal bagged national award in implementing development activities.

Speaking on the occasion, the ZP Chairman said that every ZP high school with a student strength of 250 would be provided with the mini mineral water plant. The schools which were below 250 strength would be supplied mineral water tins through NTR Srujala Sravanti Scheme. He said that the Government has directed to establish digital classrooms in 200 high schools.

Following this, each school would be equipped with two CPUs, one projector and a screen and the Government provided Rs 1.5 lakh assistance for this, he added. However, the Purchase Committee headed by Joint Collector P Koteswara Rao, some companies have agreed to supply one CPU, one projector and a screen for Rs 50,000 to the schools. He said that there was an overwhelming response from the donors for establishing the digital classrooms.

Following the response, the ZP had allotted Rs 50 lakh. About 105 schools received 50 percent donations, he added. Businessman Bolla Rajeev donated Rs 10 lakh, TANA donated Rs 25 lakh, Godavari NRIs provided Rs 10 lakh for the digital classrooms. He regretted that about 50,000 students were sitting on the floor in the classrooms and to provide furniture, Rs 11 crore was needed. However, the Zilla Parishad had spent 50 percent ZP funds for the furniture and provided 25,000 benches and chairs to the students, he added.
