World Consumer Rights Day, was observed under the aegis of Forum For Better Bapatla, here on Thursday.  Speaking on this occasion Bapatla Tahsildar, T Vallaiah, said that the consumers who had been deceived or exploited, should approach consumer forums for redressal of their complaints and settlement of their claims or damages.

Bapatla: World Consumer Rights Day, was observed under the aegis of Forum For Better Bapatla, here on Thursday. Speaking on this occasion Bapatla Tahsildar, T Vallaiah, said that the consumers who had been deceived or exploited, should approach consumer forums for redressal of their complaints and settlement of their claims or damages.

He said, “The market has indulged in a fierce competition to attract customers. We are served with a myriad of options for every product and service. In this mad contest, one can never say who might take us for a ride.”

Vallaiah said to protect the interests of consumers, the government had enacted a law called Consumer Protection Act 1986, that gives us six basic rights. “These rights are there to make sure that consumers get products and services worth their money,” he explained.

A consumer B Bhavanarayana, who successfully got a compensation of Rs 5 lakh from a bank for defective service, by approaching the District Forum, was felicitated. The forum secretary, PC Sai Babu, Revenue Inspector I Omkaram, Deputy Tahsildar G Ramesh, staff and members participated.
