Awareness meet on menstrual hygiene held

Vijayawada: Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadde Anuradha has said that girls should be educated on menstrual hygiene. She was chief guest at ‘WoMentor-2018’, an awareness programme on ‘Waste Management and Menstrual Hygiene’ organised by Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs of India AP Chapter (COWE). The programme was organised at PB Siddhartha Arts and Science College auditorium here on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, Anuradha said menstrual hygiene was a serious and burning issue in girls below poverty line and should be addressed seriously. Teachers should focus on the issue and educate the girls, she added.
Swachh Andhra Mission executive vice-chairman CL Venkat Rao briefed the various activities taken up by Swachh Andhra Mission on waste management. He explained the various methods to recycle waste and use it for various purposes. “The government was providing various schemes for recycling the waste. Waste management should be addressed properly. Otherwise it will lead to mosquito breeding. It results in various types of diseases,” he explained.
COWE president A Subhashini said every year to mark International Women’s Day, ‘WoMentor-2018’ would be organised. This year they would educate people on waste management and teach children of government and municipal schools on menstrual hygiene. Students of Patamata Lanka ZP High School, Vignanvihar High School, Bishop Azaraiah Girls High School and other guests participated in the programme.
