It’s now or never for Ramayapatnam port: Prakasam intellectuals
Intellectuals and social workers believe that the fight for the Ramayapatnam port should be intensified now by involving the common public and various types of protest should be used to intensify pressure on the state and Union governments.
Ongole: Intellectuals and social workers believe that the fight for the Ramayapatnam port should be intensified now by involving the common public and various types of protest should be used to intensify pressure on the state and Union governments.
The Prakasam Zilla Abhivruddhi Vedika, Ramayapatnam Port Sadhana Samiti, YSR Congress, PDSU, AP Students JAC and other public, farmers and students fronts organised a round-table on the course of action to achieve Ramayapatnam port for the development of the district.
LV Rama Murthy Raju, an NRI industrialist informed that the Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley announced that the state government should recommend another place instead of the Dugarajapatnam, for construction of a port. He said that though the chief minister knows the aspirations of Prakasam district people for the Ramayapatnam port, he was not recommending it due to his personal intentions.
He said that the state government cannot get a place better than Ramayapatnam, which is near to road and railways with deep sea level along with the availability of land and workforce. The local public representatives should bring pressure on the government at least now and become part of the movement by the people, he requested.
Chunduri Rangarao, president of the Prakasam Zilla Abhivruddhi Vedika said that Ramayapatnam has support from the nature and the technical committees by the Union government, NITI Ayog, Visakhapatnam Port, RITES, Ernst and Young, AECOM and others.
He announced that the Dugarajapatnam port was technically not feasible and economically not viable. He said that while the Union government was asking for alternate location for provision of funds and infrastructure, the Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu was stressing for Dugarajapatnam. He alleged that it shows us nothing but Naidu exhibiting hatred against the people in Prakasam district.
Annem Kondala Rao, general secretary of Andhra Pradesh Prawns Farmers Welfare Association and treasurer of Prakasam Zilla Abhivruddhi Vedika said that if the chief minister do not recommend for the construction of port at Ramayapatnam, we could believe allegations of corruption against him were true.
The other speakers at the round-table opined that the demand for the Ramayapatnam port should be popularized among public and encourage them to use 1100, Mee Kosam, WhatsApp, Facebook and other tools of internet and social media as bridge to voice their demand to the government.
They wanted to encourage the public to intensify pressure on the local MLAs, MPs and MLCs and force them to talk for the Ramayapatnam port with the chief minister. The members opined that phase-wise mass movement should be taken up to bring pressure on the state government and see it recommend for Ramayapatnam port.
