Tirupati Sastry birth anniversary today

Undi: Tirupati Venkata Kavulu (poets) have given their service to Telugu literature and brought it to the common people. The 146th birth anniversary of Divakarla Tirupati Sastry, who was one of Tirupati Venkata Kavulu will be conducted at Yandagandi village of Undi mandal on March 22.

Tirupati Sastry, born in Yandagandi was always proud of his native village and his friends. He always praised his native village and his friends in literary meetings. Born on March 22, 1872, Tirupati Sastry studied in the street school. He was the pupil of Pammi Perisastry of Pippara and Charla Brahmaiah Sastry of Kadiyadda near Tadepalligudem. He had a close association with Challapilla Venkata Sastry at Kadiyadda.

The duo became known as Tirupati Venkata Kavulu. Tirupati Venkata Kavulu were the pioneers of Avadhana Prakriya in Telugu literature. Tirupati Sastry and Challapilla Venkata Sastry studied at one place over two decades, and they conducted Satavadhanam for the first time in Kakinada. Tirupati Sastry passed away in the 1920s. Even then, Challapilla Venkata Sastry published the books that was written by him also in the name of Tirupati Venkata Kavulu.

The statue of Tirupati Sastry was installed a decade ago at the branch library of Yandagandi village. Cherukuwada Suryanarayana Raju donated the statue.

The villagers have constructed a building in the junior college compound in the name of Tirupati Sastry. The villagers have been conducting the birth anniversary celebrations of Tirupati Sastry at the Branch Library in the village every year.
