Vijayawada: Chicken, mutton and sea foods are being sold at makeshift kiosks on the side canals especially on Sundays and festival holidays, even though they were not permitted to sell. Foods sold at unhygienic places will affect people’s health especially kids and senior citizens, said physician Shankar. He said meat sold beside drains, side canals and the garbage dumps were prone to infections and gastroenterology problems. Non-vegetarians should buy meat at clean and hygienic place and check the surroundings before buying, he suggested.

VMC chief medical and health officer Dr KA Rao said the corporation will take serious action against those selling meat and sea foods beside the side drains and without certificate from the veterinary assistant surgeon.
