Guntur: Senior citizens, members of the Walkers Association, students and likeminded people took out ‘padayatra’ from Gardens Walking Track to Mother Teresa statue here on Sunday, to mount pressure on the Centre to accord Special Category Status (SCS) to AP.

Addressing a gathering, senior citizen and retired municipal regional director Devineni Karuna Chandrababu said that development was possible with the SCS. “If SCS is given, the entrepreneurs will come forward to set up industries which will generate employment opportunities,” he opined.

He found fault with the Centre for backtracking on the SCS and hurting the sentiments of people of AP.

Holding placards, the participants demanded that the Centre grant SCS and raised slogans against the Central government. They said that it was the responsibility of the Centre to extend helping hand to the newly-formed AP state.
