Guntur: Rural SP Ch Venkata Appala Swamy paid rich tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram by garlanding his portrait on the occasion of his 111th birth anniversary celebrations held at District Police Office here on Thursday.

Speaking on this occasion, he said that the latter worked hard to uplift the poor and weaker sections of the society. He urged people to draw inspiration from him and try to achieve his goals.

Trying to achieve his goals was a real tribute to him, the SP added.Meanwhile, Forum for Better Bapatla secretary PC Sai Babu said Babu Jagjivan Ram had created a world record for being a Parliamentarian for 50 uninterrupted years, from 1936 to 1986. And through those years he worked tirelessly to promote equality and without any rancour or bitterness.

Sai Babu informed that Jagjivan Ram was champion of the depressed classes in society. A true democrat and a distinguished Union minister, he was a towering personality and played a prominent role for over a half century in Indian politics.

Jagjivan Ram's 111th birth anniversary was celebrated on Thursday under the ageis of Forum for Better Bapatla. His portrait was garlanded and rich tributes were paid to the great leader.

Advocate Jamrud Basha, Gopalam Sambasiva Rao, staff of Tahsildar's office and members participated.
