Vijayawada: Ramesh Hospital managing director Dr Ramesh Babu on Monday said a five-month-old baby boy from Nigeria undergone a paediatric cardiac surgery successfully at their hospital on March 27.

Addressing the media, he informed that about 10,000 children were born with heart problem every year and 2,500 children among them should be treated and operated in the first year. After the surgery, they would lead a normal life, he said.

He recalled that similar cardiac surgeries were performed on a Pakistani boy and a Belgium traveller. “Medical Tourism is adding to the development of AP’s economy with patients from across the world come for treatment,” he added.

Chief consultant paediatric cardiologist N Srinath Reddy said that Master Udenka Kamsiyochukwu Divine was born with a complex congenital heart defect. Through Global Medical Tourism Company operating from Nigeria approached Ramesh Hospitals and operation was performed on Master Udenka Divine successfully.

Chief pediatric cardiac surgeon R Benedict Raj said that after the complex corrective open heart surgery, the baby recovered. He said that after inaugurating the Children’s Heart Institute, they had performed more than 1,200 pediatric cardiac procedures along with the team of pediatric cardiologist Jyothi Prakash Reddy, Dr Vasu Dev, senior pediatric cardiac surgeon R Benedict Raj and chief anesthetist P Srinivasa Rao.
