Ongole: The YSR Congress Party Prakasam district unit occupied the rail tracks at Ongole Railway Station on Wednesday as part of the agitation for Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh.

The YSRCP Ongole parliament constituency president, Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, Santanutalapadu MLA Adimulapu Suresh, Giddalur Assembly constituency in-charge IV Reddy, Kondepi Assembly constituency in-charge Varikuti Ashok Babu and hundreds of the party workers reached Ongole railway station and occupied the railway tracks at Platform Nos 1, 2 and 3 from 10.15 am to 10.50 am. They stopped the 07607 Nanded to Tirupati Special Train from 10.20 am to 10.44 am on platform No 3.

They were countered by the Railway Protection Force and Civil Police and the authorities sent out the agitators from the railway station. However, there was a strong tussle between Varikuti Ashok Reddy and the police officials, which went from verbal argument to physical man handling in the heat of exchange of words.

The police arrested Ashok Babu and allowed all others to leave the place after booking a case for obstructing the train movement. Balineni Srinivasa Reddy condemned the manhandling of police on YSRCP leaders. He demanded that the police release Ashok Babu immediately. He warned the police of attracting ire of hundreds of protestors in front of the police station.

As the police and RPF made tight security arrangements and installed barricades, the common passengers faced trouble. The passengers felt inconvenience as the railway station echoed with the slogans from the large crowd of YSRCP workers and the police and RPF personnel dragged them to out of station.
