Vijayawada: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Dr P Narayana laid foundation stone for five million gallons per day (MGD) filtration and 16 MGD water pump replacement at Vidyadharapuram here on Thursday.

The new MGD filtration and pump replacement work was taken up with an estimated cost of Rs 8.2 crore for 5 MGD filtration and Rs 2 crore for 16 MGD new clear water pump replacement at Vidhyadarapuram.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayour Koneru Sridhar said the city was expanding vastly. With the 14th Finance Commission funds, the head water works would be taken up. He said that with Rs 2 crore, 16 MGD old clear water pump would be replaced with new one.

With the construction of filtration plant and replacement of new clear water pump, drinking water supply would be improved in division Nos 5, 6, 7, 8, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21 under circle -3 which includes Governorpeta, Arandalpeta, Suryaraopeta, Kasturibaipeta, Sitaramapuram, Gulam Mohinuddin nagar, Maruthi Nagar, Machavaram, Labbipeta, Woodpet, Badavapeta, Giripuram and Moghalrajpuram, he added.
