According to the DSP, the Taluk police received a complaint on December 19, 2017 from Gudimati Srikanth, resident of Sriram Colony in Ongole that his mother Gudimati Kumari, aged 45 years, was found dead in home with burnt injuries.

After visiting the spot, the DSP Srinivasa Rao and Taluk CI Ganga Venkateswarlu observed that the crime scene was altered and the murderer tried to erase the clues.The DSP had given certain instructions to the CI Venkateswarlu and appointed the SI NC Prasad, constables M Srinu, P Narasimharao and Ramu to help the CI in investigation of the case.

In the investigation, the police doubted Sayani Nageswara Rao, with whom the woman had an extra-marital relationship. The police received the call data of Nageswara Rao and inquired him about the murder. Though denied at first, after witnessing the clues and autopsy report Nageswara Rao confessed later and the police arrested him on Wednesday.
