Vijayawada: Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samiti president Chalasani Srinivas opined that movement for achieving Special Category Status should be built from the grassroots-level.He participated in a protest organised by freedom-fighters, senior citizens and retired army personnel here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the present generation lacked the inspiration for the movement and were used to luxuries and software jobs.

Srinivas said that after the bifurcation the state, there was no proper support from the Central government for the development of the state. He recalled that in 1970s, those generation people strived hard and established industries to provide employment. The next generation was interested in going aboard and settling there.

He was of the view that with the SCS, industries would be setup with subsidy and there would be tax benefit.

Freedom-fighter K Lakshminarasaiah expressed that they were ready to extend support by direct participation in the agitation. Sarvodaya Trust chairman BV Mohan Prasad said that NDA government was allotting more funds to north Indian states and had done injustice to Andhra Pradesh. He said that it was the duty of the Central government to do justice to the state.

Local corporator N Balakrishna said that CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu was fighting against the Central government without compromising.Prof Sadasiva Reddy, freedom-fighters Devi Reddy, Satyanarayana Reddy, Y Nagewsara Rao, senior citizens V Babu Rao, SSR Murthy and others were present.
