Vijayawada: With a demand to take strict action on private and corporate institutions for organising classes in summer vacations, the members of Student Federation of India (SFI) met HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao here on Monday. They submitted a memorandum to him.

The SFI district secretary, M Someswara Rao alleged that Sri Chaitanya, Narayana and other private colleges had started Intermediate classes in the name of bridge course to Class X passed students much ahead of starting the first year Intermediate admission process.

The institutions were also conducting senior Intermediate classes between 7 am to 8 am. He recalled that the education department officials, the Regional Inspection Officer (RIO) did not take any action in spite of a complaint on the same.

The student union leader urged the government to initiate strict action on the management of the colleges for conducting classes in summer vacations. The recognition of these institutions should be cancelled, failing which the SFI would lay a siege to the office of Director of Colligate Education. He also demanded that the government ready textbooks by June for the students of government schools.

The SFI district president, N Koti Babu, city secretary Ch Sumanth, M Anil, Vamshi and other were present.
