Ongole: Everyone should be aware of the adversaries of the child marriages and no one should let their daughters suffer, said D Mary Suneetha, a polytechnic student, at Kanigiri on Monday.

She participated in the first of its kind walkathon in the state to create awareness on child marriages and child rights, Prajachaitanya Padayatra from Kanigiri and to cover all villages up to Venigandla, with the help of the Good Help NGO, Girls Advocacy Alliance, HELP NGO, District Legal Services Authority, Women and Child Welfare Department and Police departments.

The Padayatra started from Government Girls High School and MSR College and a human chain was formed at Pamur bus stand.

Suneetha said that she had witnessed many child marriages in the western Prakasam district. She told that if her parents weren’t convinced with her words, she should have also become a victim of the bad practice.

BV Sagar, paralegal volunteer of the HELP NGO said that it was the responsibility to create awareness on the adversities of the child marriages.

The Good Help NGO volunteer, K Ramesh said that everyone should contribute their part for the welfare of society and he appreciated Suneetha for coming forward to participate in the padayatra.

He wished that the parents who had taken a decision to perform marriages to their minor children would change their mind after they learn about the adverse effects of child marriages.
