Rajamahendravaram: MLC Adireddy Appa Rao advised auto drivers to take the passengers to their destinations safely and also try to avoid accidents by controlling speed driving as well as overloading of autos.

Participating in road safety week celebrations held at Uma Ramaligeswara Swamy Kalyana Mandapam here on Wednesday, he said every auto driver should follow traffic rules which was the need of the hour. Many were dying in road accidents due to lack of awareness on road rules.

He appealed to the vehicle riders to wear helmets to avoid head injuries and also avoid driving by using mobile phone. He underlined the need to conduct awareness
meetings on traffic rules to avoid accidents. “We will be safe if we drive our vehicles as per road rules,” he added.

Godavari Urban Development Authority (GUDA) chairman Ganni Krishna advised the vehicle riders not to ride vehicles by consuming liquor which was main reason
for accidents. He advised the police department to check the vehicles so that any problem to the people can be avoided.

Rural MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Choudary said in recent times many new models of vehicles arrived in the market and many were purchasing them without proper awareness on the vehicles. He asked the officials to make insurance and registration compulsory.

Mayor Pantham Rajani Sesha Sai underscored the need to use cycle one hour in a day like in Mysore, which helps to maintain sound health and also helps to reduce pollution.Auto Union leader Vasamsetti Gangadhar Rao, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) YV Ramana Kumar, corporator D Parvathi Sundari, regional transport officer Siri Anand and others were present.
