Vijayawada: Summer sports coaching camp for children studying in government schools, organised by Vellore Institute of Technology University, Andhra Pradesh (VIT-AP) began here on Wednesday. As part of social responsibility, the VIT-AP adopted Inavolu, Velagapudi and Sakhamuru villages under the limits of upcoming capital city Amaravati.

The summer sports coaching camp was inaugurated by VIT-AP vice-chancellor Dr Shekar Vishwanathan along with Tulluru mandal MEO Koteswara Rao and Tahsildar M Poornachandra Rao. About 350 students participated in the camp and all the students were given T-shirts and shoes. Training will be given in athletics, basketball, football, cricket and other sports in the camp.

Speaking on the occasion, Shekar Vishwanathan said that if students studying in rural areas were given training in sports they would excel and bring reputation for the country. He said that rural children were second to none and as a social responsibility they had adopted these villages.

He said that they had provided all infrastructure facilities and digital classrooms in the school. He said that students attending the sports camp would be given hygienic food and VIT-AP would support these schools in all aspects, he added.

MEO Koteswara Rao appealed to VIT-AP to adopt some more villages in the days to come.
