Rajamahendravaram: Rural MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Choudary has said that the state government is giving priority to the agriculture sector and is putting in efforts to make it a profitable profession. He advised the farmers to avail the schemes judiciously.

Participating in Kisan Kalyana Karyasala conducted by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) at roads and buildings guest house here on Wednesday, he said that usage of fertilizers has reduced by 30 percent and many farmers were using organic manures for their crops.

The government was encouraging farm mechanisation and supplying harvesters etc on subsidy to the farmers. He advised the farmers to take up drip irrigation to save water which benefits them a lot.

Storing, marketing and transportation facilities should also be needed to the farmers for their benefit. Except farmers, everyone in the country sell their products for the prices fixed by them. The farmers need free hand to fix rates to their produce, he opined.
ATMA should bring awareness among the farmers about latest farming technologies to get high yield with less investment, he added.

ATMA director P Padmaja, agricultural scientists Dr KV Sitaramaiah, CHVN Rao, Dr K Madhavi, KS Ramesh and others were present.
