Guntur: Deputy Transport Commissioner GC Raja Ratnam urged owners of school and college buses not to use the buses for marriage and other functions. With summer holidays announced, some educational institutions had been hiring the buses for purposes of shifting marriage parties and others related to different functions.

He said that transport department had identified some educational institutions were using the college buses for marriage functions and warned of imposing penalty to the tune of Rs one lakh to the owner of the bus in case of using the buses for functions.

He reminded that they had already collected penalty from some educational institutions. He said that the educational institutions were paying a tax of Rs 1,500. The transport department had already booked cases against 18 bus owners. Stating that the buses of educational institutions were intended for shifting of the students, he warned the owners not to use them for other purposes.

He informed that they had set up teams to identify the buses using for marriage purposes. He suggested managements of educational institutions to take up repairs to the buses and keep ready at the time of reopening of the schools or colleges.
