Students protest over cut in MBBS seats

Vijayawada: Activists of Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) and YSR Students Union (YSRSU) organised a protest at NTR University of Health Sciences here on Tuesday, against cutting down of 150 MBBS seats at Tirupati, Guntur and Kakinada government medical colleges.

The YSRSU district president, D Anji Reddy said the best example of government failure was to forego 150 MBBS seats in government colleges. He said that the Medical Council of India (MCI) had warned to provide minimum infrastructural facilities at the government medical colleges at Kakinada, Guntur and Tirupati.

He said that by cutting down 150 seats, the merit students in the state would be at loss. He said the negligent attitude of NTR UHS officials to bring these issues to the government’s notice had made to forego 150 medical seats.

DYFI state president A Ravindra alleged that it was government failure to provide freezers for storing cadavers and human organs, he said and added that in spite of repeated reminders from MCI, the state government had failed to provide infrastructural facilities. He said that proper facilities were not provided for the hostellers, he added.

The members of the students unions demanded that the government take steps to reinstate 150 government medical seats and do justice to the students.
