Ongole: YSRCP state spokesperson and its Santanutalapadu in-charge TJR Sudhakar Babu demanded that the government immediately release water from Gundlakamma project for the drinking and irrigation needs of the people.

He announced that his party would take up a padayatra from Naguluppalapadu to Mallavaram Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Maddipadu mandal for 25 kms from May 14, the day on which YS Jaganmohan Reddy is expected to complete 2,000-km of walk.

Sudhakar Babu said that the government had failed the Gundlakamma and Ramateertham projects to serve the purpose and give water to their flowing area. He said that the Ramateertham project, which should supply irrigation water to 73,000 acres didn’t worked completely and the farmers were unable to sow paddy for the last four years.

The check dams proposed at Keethipadu, Naguluppalapadu and Cheervanuppalapadu were not started though the government allocated Rs 30 crore in 2016. He alleged that the funds were diverted in the name of beautification of Mallavaram project.

He announced that the YSRCP leaders Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, Ongole MP YV Subbareddy, MLA Adimulapu Suresh, former MLA Buchepally Sivaprasad Reddy and other leaders join the padayatra for 25 km on May 14 and 15.
