Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala (SMK) students participated in the prestigious Nandi Natakotsavam for the first time and won the Golden Nandi Award 2017, said the SMK principal Dr T Vijayalakshmi here on Wednesday. 

Vijayawada: Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala (SMK) students participated in the prestigious Nandi Natakotsavam for the first time and won the Golden Nandi Award 2017, said the SMK principal Dr T Vijayalakshmi here on Wednesday.

She said that about 20 students of SMK had practiced with dedication for weeks together and participated in the prestigious Nandi Natakotsavam for the first time. Their performance won the Golden Nandi 2017 for the college.

Vijayalakshmi said that the students performed the play Urubhangam, the play written in Sanskrit by Bhasa in the 2nd or 3rd century. The play was based on the well-known epic, the Mahābhārata written by Vyasa. She said that Urubhangam focuses on the story of the character Duryodhana during and after his fight with Bhima.

The college management congratulated the participants, their parents and the cultural coordinator Dr M Saraladevi and D Uma.
