Rajamahendravaram: Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton's Birthday Celebrations Samithi has appealed to the government to arrange a ghat in the name of delta architect, Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton in the city.

Speaking to reporters, samithi members Rev K Pratap Sinha, Subhakar Sastri and convener Jashuva Pattabhi said that Cotton constructed the barrage at Dowleswaram to save the people from drought in the district. Because of it, now the people in delta area were living peacefully and having food.

Cotton who came from England on government duty distressed with the drought condition and constructed the barrage by arguing with British government many a time, they said.“It is a small tribute to the great engineer, if we construct a ghat in his name,” they said.

As part of his 125th birthday celebrations, a rally would be taken out from Cotton statue at Godavari bund to Sub-Collector's office, they informed.
Meanwhile, tributes were paid to the daughter of Cotton at her tomb located near Pushkar Ghat.Samithi members John Prasad, Samuel and others were present.
