coins foundPalakollu : The severe storm and strong gales that lashed the Palakollu town on Friday brought down the Dhwajastambham of Sri Ksheera Ramalingeshwara Swamy temple here in West Godavari district. The restoration works have been going on since three days.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, temple chairman Bangaru Raja said that during the digging works for reinstalling the Dhwajasthambham, 920 copper coins dating back to the period between 1826 to 1876 AD, 3 gold coins, 40 silver coins, and some gold objects were found. Along with these, there were yantras, shankhas, and chakras were also found, he said.

According to mythology, it is believed that Lord Rama installed the Shivalinga of Ksheera Ramalingeshwara Swamy. Speaking to reporters, K Thimmaraju of Archaeological Department said that this temple was constructed by the Reddy kings in the year 818 AD.
