State Legislative Council adopted six Bills including Bangaru Thalli Girl Child Promotion and Empowerment Bill 2013 on the last day of the second phase of the budget session on Friday. Introducing the Bill in the House, State Women Development and Child Welfare Minister Sunita Laxma Reddy said that the Bill was intended to pay Rs 1,000 if the girl child was properly immunised.

She said that Rs 2,000 per year up to 5th class would be given to girl child, Rs 2,500 per year for sixth and seventh class and Rs 3,000 if the girl studied 9th and 10th classes. After 10th Rs 3,500 per year for first and second year of Intermediate course, Rs 4,000 per year for four years to purse PG course. Bangaru Talli was in addition to any subsidy and incentive already provi ded. After the girl attains 21 years, if she completes Intermediate and discontinues studies a lump sum amount of Rs 50,000 would be paid to her. If the girl completes degree course, the government would pay Rs 1 lakh.

The beneficiaries would be identified through Aadhaar number and biometrics, the minister explained. The other Bills passed in the Council include AP Municipal Corporations (amendment) Bill 2012, AP Municipal Laws (amendment) Bill - 2013, the AP Medical Practitioners Registration (amendment) Bill -2013, AP State Commission for SC and ST (amendment) Bill - 2013, AP State Commission for ST Bill - 2013.
