Tripurana Venkata Ratnam appointed Chairperson

Hyderabad: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy reconstituted the AP Women's Commission by appointing Dr Tripurana Venkata Ratnam as its chairperson. Five others � Paruchuri Jamuna, Unita Krishnan, Thoti Malleswari, Mukala Kasturi and L Feroz Begum were inducted as members of the Commission. One more member under the Scheduled Tribes category would be nominated separately and orders to this effect will be issued soon.

Dr Tripurana Venkata Ratnam is a doctorate and has completed her LLB from Srikakulam district. She was an MLA from TDP in 1983 from Cheepurupalli and minister in the cabinet of N Bhaskar Rao. Her father T Raghava Dasu was a freedom fighter and was an MLC and DCC president during 1978-81. She is also a noted social activist.A Parchuri Jamuna is a post graduate in political science and is the daughter of P Ramaswamy from Hyderabad. She started her career as a journalist in 1975 in Eenadu and actively participated in setting up of NGOs for women's education, health and girl child rights.

Jamuna has trained people working in NGOs, political personnel, health activists, women activists and social welfare departments on gender issues. She was the project manager & director Advocacy, SERP in 2003 and is a prominent social activist.A Dr Sunitha Krishnan is from Kerala and has settled in Hyderabad. She has an MD in psychiatry and heads Prajwala NGO. She has done remarkable service in anti-human trafficking and rehabilitation of victims through her NGO. She received national and international awards and is a prominent social worker.

Thoti Malleswari is the wife of Congress leader T Raghava Reddy. She is a post graduate and her grandfather was elected twice as the sarpanch unanimously. She is a ZPTC member, Chowdepalli, Chittoor District and is the ZP Standing Committee Chairman (social welfare) and member of the District Food Advisory Committee.A Mukala Kasturi is the wife of MA Satyanarayana of Vizianagaram and is a post graduate and former ZPTC member and a prominent social worker as well.

L Feroz Begum from Kurnool is the wife of Roshan Basha and is a graduate. She is the former Mayor of Kurnool (2000-05) and is a noted social worker.A The Chief Minister hoped that the new Women's Commission would work for the development, security and welfare of women in the State.
