Sudheer Goutham baby1Hyderabad: An eight months old baby Sragvi was abducted from the Shivam road in the city on Saturday. Her mother Sujana, from whose arms she was snatched by two motor cycle borne youths, is worried as the child was ailing for the past two days after being exposed to dehydration. Despite intensive search operations all over the city and elsewhere in the suburbs, there was no trace of her. The incident took place when the mother and child were coming back in an auto from a hospital. It was a shocking experience even for the onlookers, but none could go to the rescue of the child whisked away by the youths who vanished into the heavy traffic. Her father, T Dixit, who flew back to city from Chennai on learning about the incident, has been sobbing uncontrollably even while talking to this correspondent. He said Sragvi fell sick because of dehydration following sunstroke. "She needed extra care" at this hour, he said. Sujana, in shock, was unable to speak. Her sister Suvachana said the kidnapping took place at around 8.30 p.m. when the mother and child were returning home in the auto from a nursing home at Shivam Road, Vidyanagar. When the vehicle reached Shivam Road, close to their house, the auto driver allegedly slowed down saying it had broken down and won't move further. "He asked her to get down and paying the fare," said Suvachana. Sujana got down carrying Sragvi in her arms, opened her purse to pay the auto driver. Just then the bike-riders who were suspected to have followed the auto struck. "Terrified Sujana did not even notice whether the auto driver was still there", said Suvachana, who was at Sujana's house looking after her four-year-old elder daughter Jhanvi. The police questioned the pediatrician who had treated the child at the nursing home. They collected the footage from the closed circuit TV cameras installed by some business establishments on Tilaknagar and Shivam roads. Additional DCP, East Zone, M Venkateswara Rao told The Hans India that the case was being investigated from all angles. Efforts were on to trace the driver of the auto in which Sujana travelled with the child. Police were also trying to locate the two alleged kidnappers.
