Protesters fling rotten tomatoes, eggs, slippers at her residence
Hyderabad: Activists of TRS women's wing and Telangana Women's JAC led by their chiefs Tula Uma and Sandhya respectively tried to lay siege to AICC spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury's house in Banjara Hills on Thursday in protest against her remarks on the suicides in Telangana region.
Tension prevailed when protestors threw eggs, rotten tomatoes, slippers and brooms at her house. A big contingent of police deployed at the location whisked them away from the scene. Later, another batch of TRS Mahila activists descended on the scene only to be arrested by the police.
Earlier, TRS women's wing president Tula Uma condemned the police for not allowing them to stage a protest in front of the leader's house. She said that the demonstrations would not be withdrawn until the Congress leader tendered an apology to the people of Telangana.
Meanwhile Telangana women's JAC chief V Sandhya has termed Renuka Chowdhury's statements as insensitive and inhuman.A "She herself is a cancer survivor. At her age, if she could overcome death, how can she say that students and youngsters died of cancer, polio and tuberculosis?", Sandhya fumed. P Satya, P Jhansi and other women activists took part in the protest programme. It may be recalled that Renuka Chowdhury had said that the suicides of youths were not genuinely for the cause of separate statehood, but instead, they were due to critical health problems.
