The Godavari flood level at Bhadrachalam crossed the 59 feet mark on Friday afternoon, after steadily rising since morning. It is likely to touch 61 feet, officials of the Central Water Commission said. Two hundred persons, belonging to 27 families, of Subashnagar in the town were shifted to a relief centre. Transport and other links to V R Puram, Kunavaram and Chintoor mandals, after the river water rose to five feet on the town’s outskirts en route to Bhadrachalam-Kunavaram road. Officials have stopped power supply to 562 flood-affected villages in Palvancha mandal. Khammam joint collector Surendra Mohan is regularly monitoring the flood situation.

Links with four mandals snapped
Charla: The flood water has inundated the Bhadrachalam Agency area, snapping all links with Charla, Venkatapuram, Wajedu and Dummagudam mandals. Power supply in the mandals has been disrupted. Officials are busy with relief work, after the main highway roads have been submerged. Twenty-one crest gates of the Taliperu project have been lifted to release 51,000 cusecs into the Godavari. Flood-affected villagers are being move to the relief centres.

34 villages cutoff
Khammam: The Godavari river’s flood level in this mandal is sharply rising. It had touched 55 feet at Peruru in the morning. All links 34 villages in the Wajedu mandal were broken after the highway leading to the mandal centre was flooded. A house of a Girijan at Chikupalli collapsed. About 140 residents of Gummadidoddi, Dulapuram, Chukupalli and Nagaram villagers have shifted to safer places.
