A 27-year-old B Ed student, Usha Sahoo, committed suicide by hanging herself under suspicious circumstances at her room in a hostel in English and Foreign Languages University on Monday evening. What prompted her to end her life is yet to be ascertained. This is the third suicide in the campus since March last.
Sahoo was found hanging herself from a ceiling fan at Room No B 9 in Mohalata Baichanda Hostel. Her friends noticed the body after they broke open the door. She hails from Sambalpur district in Odisha.
“Her friends noticed the body and informed us. We are trying to ascertain what made her to commit suicide. No suicide note has been found in her room so far,” said Kacheguda ACP J Ranjan Rathan Kumar. He added that she was suffering from some psychological disorder. Her friends claimed that they sensed her pulse when they dismounted the body. “She would have lived had doctor and campus authorities attended to her timely,” alleged a student leader. The doctor of primary clinic centre located in the campus was unavailable when the incident took place.
A case of suspicious death has been registered. The body was shifted to Gandhi hospital for post-mortem. Her parents were communicated over phone about the death. Earlier, Mudassir Kamran, 29, a PhD student, ended his life by hanging himself in his room on March 3 evening. Mohammad Moinuddin, 33, a final year Ph D scholar at Arabic department in EFLU, also committed suicide by hanging at a mosque near the campus in the early morning of May 2.
