Union Minister of State for Tourism K Chiranjeevi said he backs the stand of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy opposing the bifurcation the state.
At the recent meeting of the Seemandhra leaders at his residence, Chiranjeevi said the focus was on the future course of action to be adopted to oppose the division of Andhra Pradesh. “We will try our best and will try till the last to stall the division of the State,” Chiranjeevi said.
Interacting with mediapersons, Chiranjeevi said right from the beginning, he was opposed to the division of Andhra Pradesh. The Seemandhra leaders are convinced that the Constitutional guidelines for the creation of a State are being given a go-by. Resolution, for instance, is not being sent to the Assembly, although it is the accepted norm.
Reacting to the criticisms being levelled against the Congress for the division of Andhra Pradesh, Chiranjeevi rose to defend his party. “All political parties gave letters agreeing to the division of Andhra Pradesh. No political party can escape responsibility for the decision on division of the State. The Congress was the last to take a stand on the issue. For other political parties to turn around now and blame the Congress is something untenable,” remarked Chiranjeevi.
Responding favourably to the demand of Kapunadu leaders for the inclusion of Kapus in the BC List, Chiranjeevi said it is a fair demand but could not be implemented all along owing to some political difficulty. He promised to take up the demand once again with the Congress high command and the Government to get it implemented. The challenge is when new castes are included in the BC list, care should be taken to provide reservation for the new castes, without disturbing the reservations given to the castes already on BC list.
Chiranjeevi expressed concern over the devastation caused by the rains in Andhra Pradesh. In a day or two, he will be visiting the affected areas. Chiranjeevi appealed to his fans to become part of the relief work and try to help in all possible manner the affected people.
