The meeting, which is scheduled for Sunday in Karimnagar to thank UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the CWC decision to provide statehood to Telangana, was postponed due to incessant rains lashing the State for the past few days.
The Minister for Civil Supplies, D Sridhar Babu, said that they had taken the decision to put off the meeting in view of rains that wreaked havoc not only in Karimnagar, but in the entire Telangana region. "Keeping in view the plight of farmers, who incurred losses due to rains, we felt it's not right time to conduct the meeting. We will inform when the meeting would be held. Though we were geared to conduct the meeting, the rains played a spoilsport," he said.
The Minister stated that he would not participate in the Andhra Pradesh Formation Day on November 1. He recalled that last year also he did not take part in the celebrations. Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar said the people’s representatives belonging to the Congress were not taking part in the celebrations. He felt that when the UPA government was going ahead with bifurcation and was about to introduce a bill on Telangana in the ensuing Winter Session of Parliament, it was not fair on their part to take part in the Formation Day fete. He called upon the public representatives belonging to the Telangana region to boycott the Formation Day celebrations.
