Former Union Home Secretary, K Padmanabhaiah on Tuesday called for a constant systemic improvement to curb corruption and malpractices in administration to ensure good governance.
Speaking on the occasion of ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’ in South Central Railway (SCR), he stressed on the need for a positive contribution of vigilance for delivering effective governance. He advocated that transparency, accountability, accessibility of information and adherence to the rule of law should be the guiding factors towards the same.
He also wanted called upon the officials to be vigilant in their work sphere so as to act as vigilance officers for their own self. Preventive, punitive and educative measures should be the core objectives of vigilance, he added.
Elaborating on the finer points of vigilance, Padmanabhaiah underlined the need for time bound decisions, pruning down lengthy procedures and sound knowledge of management systems among the workforce. Padmanabhaiah answered questions at an interactive session with the audience. He said that integrity of the top management was the need of the hour as there was public anger against corruption in the country.
A K Mittal, General Manager, SCR, spoke of ensuring a specific time-frame to clear vigilance cases to ensure equitable justice.
