Govt failed to assess loss: TDP

The TDP team demanded a compensation of Rs. 25,000 per hectare to the paddy farmers and Rs. 30,000 per hectare to the cotton farmers.

The TDP leaders have squarely blamed the State Government for the failure in assessing the loss suffered by the farmers in the recent heavy rain. The team headed by Telugu Desam Legislature Party Deputy Leader Motkukpalli Narasimhulu visited the flood-ravaged areas in the district on Tuesday. The TDP leaders including Bhuvanagiri MLA Alimineti Uma Madhava Reddy, Kodada MLA Chandar Rao, TDP State vice-President Peddi Reddy, TDP State General Secretary Aravind Goud accompanied him.

The TDP leaders, who visited Vemulapalli, Miryalaguda and Chipparti mandals in the district, had seen the inundated paddy, cotton fields, damaged culverts, breached irrigation tanks. They talked to the farmers in Kukkadam, Bommakal, Gummanuru, Topucharla and Tadakamalla villages to learn the extent of the damage. They had observed the washed away electric poles and transformers in the Paleru rivulet.

Later, addressing the meeting, Peddi Reddy said that the State Government had miserably failed in assessing the crop loss. Expressing concern over the severe loss suffered by the farmers, he said that the ministers who were limited to 13 districts have been neglecting the woes of farmers.

He demanded a compensation of Rs. 25,000 per hectare to the paddy farmers and Rs. 30,000 per hectare to the cotton farmers. He announced that the TDP would lay siege to the Collectorate on November 7 to highlight the farmers’ problems.

Motkupalli Narasimhulu said that the Government had not so far conducted aerial survey of the affected areas. He demanded the officials of all departments to visit the villages to correctly assessing the damage and extend the compensation immediately.
