Sleuths of Cyber Crime, Cyberabad, on Monday arrested a businessman from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly cheating his counterpart to the tune of Rs 40 lakh.

According to police, the accused Mohd Ateeq Ahmed, proprietor of Horn Overseas Chahnayank at Sarai Tareen in Sambahl District, Uttar Pradesh, was detained for his alleged involvement in cheating his counterpart, Mohammed Anwar, by sending a fake mail of a purchase order by posing as a foreign customer.
Ateeq Ahmed wrote a mail to Anwar, proprietor of Arbaz Traders in Bandlaguda, requesting him to supply plates made of buffalo horns for his company located in Luxembourg in July, 2012. Accordingly, Anwar sent the plates via DHL courier to the country. But he received a mail stating that the consigner refused to take the delivery of the stock as no official order was placed by its representatives.
Police found that the fake email ID was created using a BSNL IP No pertaining to the accused. The officials went to UP and seized the hard disk of the accused and forwarded it to Forensic Science Lab for analysis. As per analysis, the accused was found to be indulging in online cheating.
