In a major relief to the Seemandhra teachers who had taken part in the agitation for united State, the State government on Wednesday agreed to convert their 33-day strike period as ‘on duty’ after the unions came forward to work during holidays to compensate the working hours that were lost. Chief Secretary PK Mohanty told the teachers that the GO would be issued in a day or two.

The teachers of Seemandhra region went on strike opposing division of the state. The strike period was calculated as 33 days after deducting the holidays, including Sundays and public holidays. The teachers’ association came forward to work on holidays to cover the syllabus of the students keeping their future in mind. The representatives of teachers’ unions met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and requested him to consider their demand. President of the teachers’ unions, G Srinivasulu Naidu, told The Hans India that the teachers in Seemandhra districts would work on holidays including Sundays and public holidays to complete the syllabus.
He said that Chief Minister signed on the file on Wednesday and a GO would be issued very soon.
