CM to tell GoM not to divide state

  • Not bothered about CM post
  • It’s important that we stay united
  • Bifurcation doesn’t help either state
  • We have to spend double on power, police, salaries and pension
  • Naxalite problem will increase
  • Both states will come to blows on water sharing

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy turned the launch of the third edition of Rachchabanda into a meeting for integrated state, which somewhat surprised the huge crowd that expected him to announce sops for the region .

After reeling out statistics of his achievements during his three-year term as CM, he described bifurcation as `the biggest problem.’ He stated that the new Telangana state would lose more than Seemandhra. “For whom are they dividing our State. It’s OK If it benefits both the regions. But why should we be divided if we are put to loss,”he asked.

Anyway he would attend the GoM meeting in Delhi on November 18 where he would reflect the aspirations of the people. Kiran Reddy goaded the people who wanted a united State to raise both their hands again and again so that the leadership in Delhi would be able to hear and watch them. He said he would ask the GoM to reconsider the decision. “Our aim is Samaik-yandhra . We have lost several acres of land for construction of projects like the Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam and also Polavaram. I am not bothered about my post. It is important that we stay united,” he stated.

He noted that Andhra Pradesh with 42 MPs in the Lok Sabha was the third biggest state in the country along with West Bengal after Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. “Many hope that bifurcation would improve things. But they are wrong. We are paying Rs 43,000 crore towards salaries and pension. If there are two states, the burden would increase by 50 per cent. Similarly, the police force. We move them to Hyderabad during Ganesh procession and to Tirumala during Brahmotsavam. If we have two states, their number should be doubled which is an avoidable expenditure. Naxalites are active in Viskahapatnam and Khammam region and this problem will only increase,” he opined. As for power, he said Telangna would have to spend more – ranging from Rs 60,000-70,000 crore in the next four to five years for lift irrigation as it was located on a higher plane. There would also be inter-state water disputes and the danger of coming to blows. The farmers in both the regions would end up losers, he explained.
