YSRCP supremo Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday met Left leaders to seek their support for opposing the Telangana Bill in the ensuing winter session of parliament. Jagan met CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy and CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat on the issue of Telangana.

The larger issue raised by Jaganmohan Reddy is that if the Telangana Bill is passed in parliament, it will set a bad precedent. It will give the Centre unbridled power to draw a line and break any state at its own whims and fancy. If Article 3 of the Constitution is not amended, he argued, it gives the Centre powers to create a state without any Resolution from the parent State Assembly. He said to create a state it should be preceded by a Resolution being passed in the concerned state Assembly.

CPI general secretary Sudhakar Reddy conveyed to Jaganmohan Reddy that his party in principle favoured the creation of Telangana. There will be no change in that stand. On the other issue raised by Jaganmohan Reddy, of Article 3 giving unbridled power to the Centre, the CPI leader allayed such fears of Jaganmohan Reddy.

He said as coalition politics was the order of the day, no single political party would be in a position to create havoc for its political advantage. CPM politburo member Sitaram Yechury said the party shared the view of Jagan of opposing the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

Yechury pointed out that even in the case of merging the Telugu-speaking areas of the erstwhile Hyderabad State with the Andhra State in Kurnool, each Assembly passed a Resolution, seeking merger. Yechury took exception to the Centre bypassing the need for a resolution being passed in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, before initiating the process for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. In the CPI headquarters, Sudhakar Reddy was accompanied by CPI national secretary Atul Kumar Anjaan. In the CPM headquarters, Jagan met CPM general secretary Prakash Karat and Yechury. Jagan was accompanied by Konathala Ramakrishna, M V Mysoora Reddy, Balasouri, Mekapati Rajmohan Reddy and Gattu Ramachander Rao.
