Visakhapatnam: The Samaikyandhra protagonists have decided to allow the second one-day international cricket match between the touring West Indies and India at the Pothinamallayyapalem stadium here on November 24, only on the condition that they should be allowed to display banners and other paraphernalia inside the stadium to demand that the State be not bifurcated.

Andhra Cricket Association vice-presidents D V S S Somayajulu and G J J Raju and media relations manager Mohan met Minister for Infrastructure Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who is spearheading the movement in the district, with a request to allow the match to be conducted since it would help get the ACA venue Test status, enabling them to get international matches on a regular basis.

Ganta then consulted Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and the latter reportedly suggested that the venue could be converted as a platform to express protest against bifurcation of the State. Thereupon, the minister told the ACA delegation that the match would be allowed if they permitted display of Samaikyandhra placards, banners, caps, T-shirts etc., into the stadium.

The ACA had no option but to agree to the demand.

Ganta has given a call to Samaikyandhra activists to utilise the opportunity and enter the stadium in big numbers to tell the world the need for united Andhra Pradesh.

This may deprive avid cricket lovers of a chance to visit a rare cricket match as protesters are likely to corner a majority of the 12,000 tickets to be put on sale from Thursday through 20 eSeva centres and at the stadium venue. The stadium has a capacity of only 27,000.
