New Delhi: Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samiti (RPS) President Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy commenced a two-day dharna at the Jantar-Mantar here on Thursday, demanding justice for Rayalseema region.

If separate Rayalaseema State is not possible, at least the capital of Seemandhra should be located in Kurnool in Rayalaseema, which would facilitate overall development of the region, he demanded. “Implement the Sribagh Pact and locate the capital of the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh in Rayalaseema,” he said.

Describing Rayalaseema as a drought-prone area, Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy insisted that the best way to bring development to the region was to make Kurnool the capital.

Then only, development would take place all over Rayalaseema. The leaders were more interested in indulging in politics of seats and votes, rather than pitching for Kurnool as capital, he criticised.

Byreddy also said that Rayalseema would need assured waters for its drinking and irrigation requirements.

Byreddy said he had always stood for the trifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. What was happening now was only bifurcation. As a result, Rayalaseema would suffer a lot, he contended.

Rejecting the proposal for Rayala Telangana State, he said would use the Right to Information (RTI) Act to get details of fraud and forgery in procuring the so-called consent of panchayats for Rayala Telangana.

“People are watching what the leaders are actually doing. They will not tolerate any fraud,” he said. It was the leaders who owned property in Hyderabad were insisting on Rayala Telangana, he alleged.

Dismissing the proposal of Union Territory status for Hyderabad, Byreddy said it was not possible without an amendment to the Constitution. The Congress-led UPA Government did not have required numbers for carrying out a Constitutional amendment. “Why do Seemandhra leaders beat around the bush? Why do they not face issues upfront?” he asked.
