A lot is at stake for the Congress in the Delhi, which is considered miniature India and is thus important to retain control over it ahead of the parliamentary elections in 2014. The Congress is throwing its full weight into the polls, in order to ensure that the party retains power.
Gidugu Rudraraju was handpicked for the job by Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi. The communication came from AICC General Secretary Madhusudhan Mistry, considered close to Rahul Gandhi.
According to Rudra Raju, his primary job is to motivate the party cadres. Unless and until the party cadres are motivated, the party campaign will not gather momentum. While the party leadership can create conducive atmosphere, it is the cadres, who translate it into vote.
