Bhadrachalam (Khammam): Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) leader and former MLA Sunnam Rajaiah launched indefinite fast here in the district on Sunday demanding the Centre to retain Bhadrachalam revenue division in the Telangana. Addressing the newsmen, Mr Rajaiah said Bhadrachalam area is integral part of the Telangana region and the proposal to shift it to Seemandhra will hurt the sentiments of the Telangana people.

He alleged that Seemandhra leaders were trying to separate Bhadrachalam from Telangana only for completing Polavaram irrigation project.

Merging the area with East Godavari district of Seemandhra region after State bifurcation would affect the interest of tribal people in the Agency area under the revenue division, he added.

The CPM leader further said that the Centre should immediately stop construction of the Polavaram project as it would affect the lives of 2 lakh girijans in the area.
