New Delhi: Senior Congress MP Palvai Goverdhan Reddy on Saturday stated that the Telangana Congress MPs plan to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, to point out the injustice meted out to the Telangana region since 1956 in the distribution of Krishna waters. Goverdhan Reddy said the Prime Minister should ensure that the situation is rectified.
Talking to mediapersons, Goverdhan Reddy said that during the recent all-party delegation meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, even the Andhra Pradesh Ministers hailing from Telangana failed to articulate the concerns of the people of Telangana. That is why the Telangana Congress MPs are keen to meet the Prime Minister and explain to him the injustice done to the region.Goverdhan Reddy said when Neelam Sanjiva Reddy became the first Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in 1956, Pochampad Project was planned. No other big irrigation project was planned for Andhra Pradesh, he said. Although Nagarjunasagar was located in Telangana, through both the canals water is being diverted to Seemandhra region. Against the allocation of 132 tmc ft water, 175 tmc ft water is being used. Similarly, even from Pothireddipadu Head Regulator, 34 tmc ft water was diverted and 15 tmc ft water was for Telugu Ganga Project.
Speaking on the Assembly logjam, Goverdhan Reddy said that the Presidential deadline expires on January 23. If the Seemandhra leaders obstruct the proceedings and do no allow it to be discussed, they will be the losers. After the expiry of the deadline, it will be deemed to have been discussed and the President will then send it to the Union Cabinet, which will process it and bring it in the next session of Parliament.
