Clearly, the Congress High Command is no mood to precipitate matters by pushing the Chief Minister too far.
Despite the defiance in the pronouncements of the Chief Minister, the Congress is willing to give him leeway as he is under tremendous pressure from the people and leaders of Seemandhra region. Interacting with media persons, Digvijay Singh announced that he would be visiting Visakhapatnam or any other place in Seemandhra in January. The date, however, is yet to be finalised.
As AICC general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh, Digvijay Singh is keen to reach out to the people of Seemandhra region and allay their misgivings.
When told that Seemandhra region was burning, he said he was aware of the situation. When told that there could be reaction against him, he said in his political life he had never been afraid of anyone. Digvijay Singh is keen to strengthen the party organisation even in the Seemandhra region. While he had recently visited Hyderabad, he is yet to visit Seemandhra region. Digvijay Singh’s visit to Visakhapatnam or any other place in Seemandhra region is seen as his bid to reach out to the people of the region. It was also expected that his visit would give a boost to the Congress in the Seemandhra region. Senior Congress leader Shabbir Ali also called on Digvijay Singh. After his meeting, Shabbir Ali said Digvijay Singh had assured him that Telangana Bill would be passed ahead of the General Election in 2014.
Digvijay Singh conveyed to Shabbir Ali that the Telangana Congress should not remain confined to Hyderabad but should go out into the districts. The Telangana Congress leaders should explain to the people how Congress president Sonia Gandhi had kept her word on Telangana, despite the pulls and pressures on her against the creation of Telangana. Advocating a proactive role, Digvijay Singh asked the Telangana Congress leaders to be in the midst of the people. He wanted the Telangana Congress to expose the double-standards of TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu.
