Appeals to top naxal leaders to surrender

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Friday said the Telangana Bill will be tabled in the next session of Parliament in February and passed.

Shinde said the President has stipulated time for the State Assembly to consider it and return it by January 23. “Once the Bill comes back, we will place it before Parliament.”

He asserted, “Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are committed to the creation of Telangana.” Shinde’s assertion clears the air of uncertainty, following the refusal of Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath and AICC General Secretary in-charge of AP not being categorical on the passing of the Bill.

The Minister issued an appeal to all the top naxal leaders to lay down arms and surrender, in the wake of the surrender of Gumudavelli Venkat Krishna Prasad, alias Gudsa Usendi, along with his wife, Raji, before the State police.

“I appeal to other senior cadres to follow this example. The CPI (Maoist) should give up their armed struggle and join the mainstream. All the surrendered people will be treated well, as per the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the Government,” Shinde said. At his monthly press conference, he said, “An important leader of CPI (Maoist), Venkat Krishna Prasad, , who was their spokes person for the Dandakaranya region, has surrendered before the AP Police. I welcome the surrender of the senior Maoist leader.” The Government is enthused by the development and is hopeful of further desertions from the naxal leadership.
