Govinda Govinda...When someone chants this, it's natural for people to think someone is invoking Lord Venkateswara. However, what do you make of it when the same chant is echoed in the Assembly?

YSR Congress Party leaders chanted Govinda Govinda in the Assembly not for any devotional reasons but to make fun of the TDP party. It all started when YSRCP MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy in a veiled reference to TDP, said during the Assembly session: "We are not adopting double eye-theory for selfish political gains like you. If you are committed to Samikayandhra sincerely, make your party president utter Samaikyandhra word at least now." This irked TDP leaders who hit back at YSRCP leaders.
Even we have two eyes; our policy is Samaikyanahdra, asserted several TDP men. They also alleged that YSRCP had advised the Centre to divide the state by invoking Article (3) of the Constitution and YSRCP has been adopting double standards since the beginning of the Assembly sessions. First they (YSRCP) demanded Samaikyandhra resolution and now they are demanding voting.

Coming back, Bhumana sarcastically said it's as if thieves know their deed. "When I say who stole the pumpkin, why are you touching your shoulders? (The exact phrase he used was in Telugu: gummadi kaya donga bhujalu thadumukonnattu). "I have not even said TDP's name. Since they know the truth (double eye theory), they are getting angry," he said. When TDP leaders didn't let Bhumana speak, he along with the other YSRCP members started chanting Govinda Govinda, your party's state will be Govinda in the next elections (it means the party will perish). It is learnt When this happened many other Congress leaders who were present in the Assembly too screamed: "TDP Govinda, Gooovindaa.."
Remembered his days of TTD chairman and thus the chant came naturally to him!
