New Delhi: BJP President Rajnath Singh on Saturday declared that the BJP was firmly committed to the creation of Telangana. Rajnath Singh asserted that there was no change in the party stand on Telangana. It stands for the separate State, but at the same time wants that justice also be ensured to the people of Seemandhra region. In his address to the BJP National Council meeting, BJP President Rajnath Singh brought up the issue of Telangana to show the commitment of the party to the cause of Telangana.

“After forming the government in the Centre, BJP will create Telangana and simultaneously form an action plan to find proper solution to the problems of the other areas of Andhra Pradesh,” he said.

Clearly, the party seems to feel that the Telangana Bill will not be passed in the upcoming Parliament Session from February 5-21. This was evident from Rajnath Singh’s assertion that the BJP would formulate an Action Plan after it comes to power after the Lok Sabha polls in 2014 and create Telangana, after finding amicable solutions to the Seemandhra region.

At the same time, Rajnath Singh criticised the Congress-led UPA Government for the shabby handling of the Telangana issue. The Vajpayee Government created the three States of Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, without rancor or ill-will. The Vajpayee government took care to create consensus on both sides of the divide and then proceeded to create the new States.

“The UPA government, which had promised to create Telangana as soon as it came in power, has not been able to achieve it even after 5 years. As the main opposition party we have given open support to the central government for this issue. Even then due to internal politics, government has not been able to take a final decision,” Rajnath Singh said in his Presidential Address to the BJP National Council. Due to Congress’ hypocrisy, there is dissatisfaction and outrage in both Telangana and Seemandhra region has increased. Instead of solving this, the Congress is more interested in balancing its political equations, he said.
