In a major embarrassment to Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy who is reportedly planning to launch a new political outfit, PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana made a controversial statement saying those mulling new parties in the name of Samaikyandhra for the sake of political benefit will taste defeat. He however said that it is good if a new party is launched for Samaikyandra.
When asked on the hoardings in support of Samaikyandhra in the Seemandhra districts, Botsa said that if there was a new party in the offing then posters would appear in all the 294 constituencies and not just a few regions of Seemandhra.
The PCC chief maintained that those posters were erected in support of Samaikyandhra and not for forming any new party.
He also revealed that Kiran Kumar Reddy sought extension of the Assembly sessions only after discussing with him.
Replying to a question, Botsa said that one cannot say now if the elections for the Lok Sabha and Assembly will be held on time. It depends on the situations at that point in time, he added. Elections for Assembly may be postponed if there is a uncertainty at that time.
"Those who are in touch with other parties are planning to defeat the Congress in the Rajya Sabha elections," Botsa said.
Botsa and Kiran Reddy will be travelling to Delhi soon on the finalization of candidates for the Rajya Sabha seats. "I will express the sentiments of Seemandhra people in the Assembly when my chance comes," Botsa added.
Botsa lobbies for Rajya Sabha nomination
With the Rajya Sabha elections nearing, Botsa Satyanarayana has begun lobbying for nominations of candidates.
According to sources, Botsa, Maheedhar Reddy and Finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy invited several Congress members at Anam's chamber to discuss party's strategy for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
According to sources, the Congress High Command had shortlisted the names of candidates and informed the same to Botsa. Botsa told the several Congress leaders that the High command is planning to field three candidates from the party and recommendation of fourth candidate will be decided after the support of TRS becomes clear.
The Congress has decided to conduct polls without cross voting and empowering the polling agent to check the vote polled by each member. It is learnt that the High Command is planning to field two sitting MPs - KVP Ramchandra Rao, MA Khan and former IAS officer Koppula Raju as their candidates .
Meanwhile, notification for the biennial elections was issued today. As per the notification, elections for 55 Rajya Sabha seats will be held on February 7 and the last date for filing nominations is January 28. Candidates will be allowed to withdraw from the contest before January 30.
